I have lived most of my adult life in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. I attended Old Dominion University and lectured at many of our suburban colleges and universities. My three children all graduated from our outstanding Virginia Beach Schools; John B. Dey Elementary, Great Neck Middle and Cox High School. My family and I have immersed ourselves in numerous and various civic, charitable and community organizations that include: The Wetlands Board, the Public Beach Commission, The Board of Zoning Appeals, The Industrial Development Authority, East Coast Surfing Association Board, President of the Auxiliary to the Hospital of Virginia Beach, Friends of Beach House, coached 10-12 year old boys for 13 years in football and basketball (2 city championships!) Great Neck Recreation Board, Civic leagues, Russell House Board, Virginia Aquarium Board, Surfers Healing, The VB Rescue Squad, ODU Education Foundation Board, Sunday School teacher and much more! Our family doesn’t just show up for “Photo Ops". We gladly do the work to help make Virginia Beach the beacon for others to emulate. A NATO neighbor once told me that their family was being transferred back to England. My wife Sonja and I told her how much she and her family would be missed and her reply was “how could anyone not love living in American and in Virginia Beach?” How very right she is!
